Porcelain Tubs

Over time, the finish on a porcelain tub can wear down because of constant cleaning with harsh abrasives, which can leave tiny pits in the tub that can collect dirt and body oils. It can even expose the black color of the cast iron underneath the porcelain. Even though the tub is clean, it does not look so. Although a replacement tub can cost as little as $100, the process of removal and installation can run up to over $2000. Restore-All can use our proven refinishing method to bring your tub back to its original beauty, without the cost or hassle of replacement.

To put it simply, porcelain is colored glass. The old method of preparing a tub to be refinished is the use of a mechanical bond, or acid etching, that produces a chemical sanding. A primer coat is applied to the tub and then sanded in order for the finish coat to adhere. Even though this method produces a good bond, it does not allow for the tub to expand and contract when hot water is applied to the finish.

Restore-All uses molecular bonding agent, which is an adhesion promoter. As you can see in the illustration, it will actually force or coating to expand and contract with the porcelain underneath it, producing a bond that will ensure years of use and beauty.

Once cured, each molecule of our tub coating shares an area with the molecules around it. This is called “Crosslinking” and it produces one of the most durable finishes available. As you can see in the illustration to the right, the molecules are arranged in a specific pattern, and will not allow any penetration of foreign matter into our coating, allowing it to expand and contract with the porcelain underneath it.

This unique aspect of our coating also makes our refinished surfaces very resistant to wear and tear, and they test a full 40%more durable than the coatings used by most other refinishers in the country. We apply six different coatings of our product in three separate applications. The first coat adheres exclusively to the porcelain. The second, third and fourth coats adhere to the porcelain and to each other. The fifth and sixth coats adhere directly to the coating itself. The end result is our finish, which is second to none. We can refinish your tub in any color that you desire or we can color match any sample that you supply.

Use and Care

The tub should not be used for at least 24 hours (preferably 48 hours) after being refinished, and should not be filled with bath water for at least a week. During this time, any residual water left in the tub should be thoroughly dried with a towel, especially around the drain and soap dish.

The tub should be cleaned with a non-abrasive cleaner, such as “Soft Scrub” or any other kind of spray and wipe cleaner. (These cleaners work best when they are applied to a dry tub) A soft sponge should be used and no scratchy scrub pads, such as the combination sponge and green cleaning pad. We also recommend using the automatic spray shower and tub cleaner. You simply press the button on the spray unit after each bath and the tub is coated with a gentle cleaner that keeps it clean and free of soap scum and mildew.

Fiberglass Tubs

Fiberglass tubs are usually made of acrylic or PVC (Poly Vinyl Chloride) and are produced by melting or injecting these products into a mold. Although these tubs are beautiful and durable, they have a tendency to crack, exposing the foundation underneath the tub to water damage and mold. Restore-All can seamlessly repair these cracks, leaving a long lasting durability that is beautiful and undetectable.

Once cured, each molecule of our tub coating shares an area with the molecules around it. This is called “Crosslinking” and it produces one of the most durable finishes available. As you can see in the illustration, the molecules are arranged in a specific pattern, and will not allow any penetration of foreign matter into our coating allowing it to expand and contract with the fiberglass underneath it. The chemicals in our coatings actually melt the fiberglass or “Crosslink” the materials together.

This unique aspect of our coating makes our refinished surfaces very resistant to wear and tear, and they test a full 40% more durable that the coatings used by most other refinishers in the country. We apply six different coating of our product in three separate applications. The first coat adheres exclusively to the fiberglass. The second, third and fourth coatings adhere to the fiberglass and to each other. The fifth and sixth coats adhere directly to the coating itself. The end result is our finish, which is second to none. We can refinish your tub in any color that you desire or we can color match any sample that you supply.

NOTE: All items that are sitting on the bathroom vanity, on the floor, or in the tub, as well as the shower curtain should be removed and placed in another room before we arrive. This prevents any damage or contamination of your belongings. If you plan to replace any tile in your bathroom, this should be done before we arrive to refinish your tub.

Children and pets should not be present during the refinishing process. The odor and particulates of our coatings tend to hover and settle above or on the floor, which is the area that the little ones will breathe. We recommend avoiding the area to be refinished for at 4 hours after the job is completed and we will need your permission to leave a window open to air out the house.

Tile

The method we use to refinish tile is the same as our tub refinishing. We spray right over the grout so that the chances of mold and mildew stains are virtually eliminated. We can refinish your tile in any color that you desire and can color match any sample that you supply. We can also perform tile repairs before refinishing. Sometimes exact tile matches cannot be found, so we will use the same size tiles for the repairs, but color does not matter because they will
be refinished.

If you would like to refinish your tiles with a pastel color and still keep the grout look, we can remove the grout, refinish the tiles, and then re-grout. This method may take several days to complete the job, but can give you beautiful finished product.

Tile Floors

We do not recommend refinishing tile floors. After exhaustive research, we have not found a finish product that can withstand the abuse of high traffic that a tile floor has to endure. However, we can refinish your floor tile, but we cannot offer any warranties or guarantees of how long the finish will last. If special care is taken of the refinished floor tile, it can last indefinitely, if you are willing to take that chance.

We can replace your floor tile with a color that matches with the newly refinished tile. This is a great alternative for those who are working with a tight budget.
